NXTNANO
Bio-based PLA

Bio-based PLA nanofiber, engineered to compost, not landfill.

PLA (polylactic acid) is a plant-derived polymer. NXTNANO spins it into biodegradable, PFAS-free nanofiber media that replaces petroleum plastic in the filter, from the fiber to the support layer.

The material

Bio-based, all the way through.

Most “green” filters are petroleum plastic with a marketing claim. Bio-based PLA is different: the nanofiber is spun from a plant-derived polymer, and in the nATUR family the upstream nonwoven is biodegradable too. The whole media is engineered for a cleaner end of life without giving up HVAC efficiency.

It is self-supporting across MERV 10 to 16+, needs no metal support screens, and is PFAS-free by design, so it meets rising global chemistry restrictions without a reformulation later.

4.2B

square feet of disposable filter plastic goes to U.S. landfills every year. Bio-based PLA media is engineered to compost instead.

Capabilities

What bio-based PLA media brings to the filter.

Bio-based fiber

The nanofiber itself is spun from PLA (polylactic acid), a plant-derived polymer, not petroleum plastic. Bio-based content runs through the fiber, not just a coating.

Compostable end-of-life

PLA is biodegradable and industrially compostable. Paired with a biodegradable nonwoven, the nATUR family gives HVAC media a true cradle-to-soil end of life.

PFAS-free by design

No fluorinated chemistry, no forever chemicals. Bio-based PLA media meets rising global PFAS restrictions without a reformulation later.

MERV 10 to 16+

Self-supporting media across the HVAC efficiency range, no metal support screens required, produced at commercial scale on HYPR Spinning.

Sourcing bio-based PLA media

Evaluating compostable, PFAS-free filter media?

NXTNANO is a U.S. manufacturer of bio-based PLA nanofiber media, produced at commercial scale on the proprietary HYPR Spinning platform in Claremore, Oklahoma. We supply the media; filtration OEMs and brands own the finished, validated product. Media can be engineered to your basis weight, efficiency target, and format.

FAQ

Bio-based PLA media, answered.

Does NXTNANO supply bio-based PLA nanofiber media?
Yes. NXTNANO manufactures bio-based PLA (polylactic acid) nanofiber media under the nATUR family, a patent-pending, biodegradable, PFAS-free filter media produced at commercial scale in Claremore, Oklahoma. It is available for HVAC filtration OEMs and can be engineered to partner specifications.
Is PLA nanofiber media compostable and biodegradable?
PLA (polylactic acid) is a plant-derived, biodegradable polymer that is industrially compostable. NXTNANO's nATUR family pairs biodegradable PLA nanofiber with a biodegradable nonwoven substrate, giving the finished HVAC media a cradle-to-soil end of life instead of adding to landfill.
Is bio-based PLA filter media PFAS-free?
Yes. All NXTNANO media, including the bio-based PLA nATUR family, is built without PFAS or any fluorinated chemistry. It relies on mechanical filtration rather than electrostatic charge, so rated efficiency holds over the life of the filter.
What filtration efficiency can bio-based PLA media reach?
NXTNANO's bio-based PLA HVAC media is self-supporting and covers MERV 10 to 16+ without metal support screens. Efficiency, basis weight, and format can be engineered to an OEM's finished-filter design.
Why replace petroleum-plastic filter media with bio-based PLA?
Roughly 4.2 billion square feet of disposable filter plastic goes to U.S. landfills each year. Bio-based PLA media replaces the petroleum plastic in both the nanofiber and the support layer, reducing embodied carbon and enabling a compostable end of life while meeting HVAC efficiency standards.
